The Pink Kit Skills Welcomed Everywhere!
Afterall women are women and birth is birth.
In October 2006, Wintergreen travelled to Pakistan to give Pink Kit presentations to groups of ordinary women throughout the country. Here are some photos of women from various tribal groups as well as women from different religious communities.
Hidayatullah and Nazli Neakakhtar, who run the NGO, RCDA, in Northern Pakistan organized the trip with Common Knowledge Trust. Through their contacts in Sindh Province, these presentations took place. Unfortunately, due to a sudden serious health issue in Hidayat's family, Pink Kit presentations in the north were cancelled and the trip was terminated early.
Although only 10 presentations were given, the response was overwhelmingly positive so CKT is working on a simplified resource of First Focus: Breath, Language And Touch that will be simple to translate into many languages.
CKT's goal is to work in conjunction with either the Ministry of Health in each country or an international organization such as WHO, UNICEF or UNESCO to provide this childbirth resource to all pregnant women from different ethnic backgrounds through their local clinics.
We only have a few photos and the interviews are from the translators. Here are some verbal comments from the women who attended different Pink Kit Presentations.
Comments from Pakistan Women About The Pink Kit Skills:
- One Muslim woman arrived at a presentation at Rana Colony, a Christian villlage, just out of curiosity and stayed 3 hours and said: 'Madam Wintergreen taught us birth skills worth a million thousand rupees.
- One translator,, who is Baha'i, commented that she truly appreciated how universal and accepted The Pink Kit birth skills truly were because Christian women, Muslim women, Baha'i women and Hindu women could gather together and all love the skills. She said she had never experienced anything like this in her country.
- In an urban Muslim community in Hyderabad, the women said: 'This topic is very important to our women and good for all of us.'
- In a Christian Colony in Hyderabad, the women said they were told to 'keep their mouth shut in labour and pray to God, He will make your baby's birth easier'. After the Presentation they enthusiastically said: 'We'll teach each other, friends and neighbors these useful skills.'
- In Deh Jarki village they said: 'The skills were very new and would like to apply them in practical life and how to make our births easier'.
- In Hussainabad, the presentation was attended by women who spoke Sindhie while the translator spoke mostly Hindi; however, the skills are so visual that they learned them very easily and enjoyed the day.
- In a Baha'i gathering the women said 'we can now understand how to really relax in our body using our breathing and minds'.
- In Jhogi Moor, the women were keen on Wintergreen returning in six months to teach them more. They loved the ways to create space inside their body.
- A very, very conservative Muslim group of women loved learning about the Internal Work from a story told by Wintergreen of another extremely conservative ultra-orthodox Jewish group in another country who after birth say: 'I did my homework well'.
