'We didnt expect to have to transfer from our Birth Center (which was a separate wing of the hospital) but they had guidelines and I went 2 weeks past my due date. Although I tried everything to go into labour, it didnt work and we found ourselves being induced in hospital. Luckily we had a day to get our heads around this change. My wonderful husband and I knew we didnt want to feel disappointment about the birth. We had taught ourselves The Pink Kit and could really see the benefits when we were planning a natural birth. We didnt know how they would work with what we now considered would be a medical birth. My husband reassured me that he would be with me no matter what and he was. Being induced was much more painful then I thought. Our Pink Kit skills excelled! You know, it really didnt matter that we were in hospital. We probably were closer than we might have been in the Birth Center because we sort of thought it was the Birth Center that would give us a good birth. No it was ourselves who gave ourselves such a great birth.'

Our first baby had been born in a Birth Center. We had lovely the atmosphere and the midwives. One reason we had picked a Birth Center was that I was terrified of giving birth in hospital. Of course, when we found out I was pregnant again we made the same arrangements. However, after 9 hours of labor the babys heart tones became variable over a period of time. The midwives tried everything they knew to see if different birth positions would make a difference. Nothing worked and they recommended that I transfer to hospital. Up to that point my labor had been really manageable. I freaked out at the thought of transferring but there was nothing I could do except walk out of the Birth Center and go home and do it myself. But I didnt have the courage to do that, although it went through my mind. Funny thing, I dont think I had really focused on The Pink Kit skills while at the Birth Center but as soon as we arrived in hospital, my partner and I really got focused. We probably did it to block out the staff, the environment, smells and what they wanted to do to me. However, all those things forced us to get our act together and we did. Looking back, sure I would have loved to have my son in the Birth Center but I cant say that I had a worse birth. In fact, my partner and I worked together better'.

There is no doubt that couples who use these birth skills do better after they have transferred to hospital then couples who dont'.
