'As a doula, I have to balance myself very carefully between the birth professionals concerns about what exactly my role is and the expectation of the couple who might hire me thinking that I can give them the birth they want. Getting my couples to use The Pink Kit, has sorted this out for me. It’s very clear to them that they have to prepare for childbirth and have the skills in place to manage labour, particularly if their birth plan stretches the concepts of their birth professional. Their preparation has allowed us to work more as a team.’

'I became a doula because I saw a gap in the care women had available to them. Fathers didn't seem to be able to offer the support a woman needed. Some women were able to pay for private midwifery care, but the midwives had a lot of bureaucratic do's and don'ts. For example, I could go to hospital with women if they transferred. I also liked not having the responsibility of being a midwife. I've loved my job and I know the couples really appreciate the work I do with them. Yet, I could still a huge gap in what people expected of me and what they were willing to do. Since my fees are quite high, I do work with motivated couples who can afford extra attention. Something was still missing. It had to do with a sense that women still had a long way to go in being able to cope with birth and I still saw fathers taking one step back. I'm now getting my clients to use The Pink Kit. I filled a gap in the market. The Pink Kit fills one as well'.
