'I liked the idea of my wife giving birth on the day of our choice. We live a busy life, so we could plan time off work. Our doctor was fine with our choice. I didn't want to go to childbirth classes, but found The Pink Kit on the internet and purchased it. My wife and I had a wonderful few weeks as we prepared for the birth of our son. It definitely enriched our experience.

'My son had been born by caesarean 19 years earlier. I remarried and my husband and I wanted to have a family. I believed that my caesarean had been unnecessary and had felt very disappointed for all those years. But life goes on and I can't say I grieved natural childbirth. Anyway, we got pregnant and worked with a midwife who gave us The Pink Kit. She didn't know much about it but some of her clients had liked it so she gave it to people. My husand and I 'mapped my pelvis' and did the internal work. I seemed very, very small to both of us. I asked my midwife about it and she told us not to worry, but in the back of my mind I began to wonder. I laboured at home for 18 hours. Our daughter never came into my pelvis. Eventually I went to hospital, had an epidural and several hours later another c/s. The doctor told me that I had the smallest pelvis he had ever seen. Funny, I wasn't surprised. We wanted to have another child and I had no doubt that I would have another c/s; however, no one told me I couldn't labour as well. I actually loved the challenge of labour. Sure it hurt but with The Pink Kit skills we both had, we enjoyed it. So, we found another doctor who understood. We laboured at home until I got fully dilated and cruised into hospital. The doctor checked me and confirmed I was fully dilated, told me the baby was fine and did I want to push for a bit. I pushed for about 45 minutes and then was ready to give birth with another c/s. No one can tell me I didn't birth my baby because I had a c/s.

‘Frankly, I didn’t want my partner to have an elective caesarean, but I didn’t have much choice and I had to accept the decision. I felt that I was going to be robbed of something and my involvement. It seemed so technical and I’m one of those guys who would love to be pregnant and give birth. Fortunately, my mother heard about The Pink Kit from one of her friends who had given it to her daughter when she was pregnant. She bought us the kit. It was just what we needed. I also realized that my partner felt that she was going to miss something because of the decision about the elective, but doing the work together was incredibly meaningful to both of us.We had a better experience because of The Pink Kit.

'Was a c/s ideal? Probably not but it's what our doctor felt was right for us, so we accepted her professional suggestion. My wife's sister gave us The Pink Kit. At first it seemed a bit foolish to prepare for birth when we knew what time and day our son was to be born. But my sister-in-law nagged us. Finally we read the book and watched the video. Although it's obviously a resource for people who will give birth naturally, we still got heaps out of it. Mostly, what we got from it was our ability to work together. I had envisioned my wife on the operating table with me holding her hand. In reality, we did much more and felt so much more involved.
