What Exactly Does Your Obstetrician Do?
The reality
Your obstetrican will come in and check you sometime after youve been admitted to the birth unit in your hospital and then come back for the delivery of your baby.
There are two things you need to know
- Between these visits you will still have to breath and you will have another contraction
so what are you going to do about it? Dont expect your obstetrician to breath for you or with you. LEARN HOW TO BREATH WELL.
- Staff CNMs or obstetrical nurses will periodically come in a do whatvever childbirth assessments are necessary
you still have to breath and you will have another contraction. Dont expect staff CNMs or obstetrical nurses to do the labour for you. LEARN HOW TO RELAX.
If 'they' won't do birth for you, what's left? ... You and your birth coach have the task of working together during all your labour contractions.
So go into your hospital birth with these skills:
- Breathing AND
- Relaxation techniques
And these equally important birth skills:
- How to work as a team with your birth partner.
- How to work along side your obstetricians care as well as the staff CNMs and obstetrical nurses when they do childbirth assessments, monitoring and procedures.
And don't forget these valuable childbirth skills:
- Learn how to stay open inside your pelvis.
- Discover the secret of coping with labour pain.
- Prepare your birth canal to prevent birth trauma.
Your obstetrician wants you and your partner to have a positive and safe birth.
Obstetricians want couples to work together well in childbirth particularly once the birth contractions get more painful. Obstetricians dont want to see you suffer and they know that childbirth can be painful BUT they will never stop you from managing your painful contractions well.
'Our doctor loved that we didnt need any pain relief. She said to us .If you need something you can have it, but its always better for your baby if you can handle labour pains without pain relief.'

'I do recommend to my patients that they learn how to breath and relax during labour. Ive seen some wonderful births with couples who have used The Pink Kit resources. I fact I used them myself for both my births.'
