'I had mixed feelings after my caesarean. I knew I hadn't really put in the time to prepare with The Pink Kit. I kept putting it off and rationalizing it by saying that I was busy. Then I had contractions for days off and on. I really got into labour too soon. Looking back on it, I was in a hurry to get my labour going and burned all my energy in trying to get my labour going. Although I felt disappointed with my c/s, at the time I couldn't wait to get my labour over with. By then I figured I'd been in labour for 65 hours. Now I know I was in active labour for 10, but I had totally blown my energy. When I got pregnant 18 months later, even with a young child, I spent more time preparing. I was determined to have a vaginal birth. I really did the internal work this time, really got my sacrum mobile, really understand how to rest before hand. This time I still had a posterior baby and niggling labour but I took charge of myself and really ignored the contractions, breathed gently, kept going around my pelvic clock, softening inside my sacrum and between my sit bones. I had an incredible few days before I actually went into labour. Funny, I ended up with another c/s section when I was 8 cms dilated because my baby's heart rate went off the wall quite suddenly. It turned out that she had a cord wrapped around her neck three times. But I feel so much better about this birth because I had honestly put my time into preparing. The skills were great to take into theatre during the operation and I recovered so much more quickly.
Denise …Committed to preparation

'Looking back on my labour, the one thing I absolutely KNEW was that every time I leaned forward my contractions went off. I realised my baby was telling me what positions he liked. When I was in a position he did like, then I had good and strong contractions. When I was in a position he didn't like my contractions seemed to peter out. It was because of The Pink Kit that I could think this through. He turned before he came out. My doctor said that is common.

Corinne … First timer

I had The Pink Kit and skimmed through it but really didn't pay it much mind. My caesarean was my fault. I got into labour and lost it. I'm ok with that, but I'm also going to be honest. Do I think that I could have given birth vaginally if I had put more time into The Pink Kit, probably, but I think I needed this experience to set me on the right track. I just thought birth happened. I really didn't think about the contractions and that I actually had to do something during them'.

Sara H. … Maybe next time

I really didn't know where my sacrum was or what a flexible one felt like even after going through The Pink Kit. I just didn't get it. My baby was posterior and my midwife had me spend hours on my hands and knees which didn't do anything. In labour I had the most excruciating back pains. And I didn't want my partner to touch me back there. He kept trying to get me to let him do some of the stuff in The Pink Kit but I wasn't having a bar of it. I shut him out and ended up with everything the hospital could throw at me. On looking back at all this, I'd say that The Pink Kit is such a new concept that people like me are struggling a bit to get it.'

Nancy P … A bit confused

‘There is no doubt that I thought of birth differently before and after The Pink Kit. Our baby was posterior and my wife was very fit. I thought that giving birth was about having strong muscles so she could push our baby out. She ended up with a caesarean after 4 days in labour. Now I know that she actually had an 8 hour labour to full dilation after hours of niggles but I didn't know. She got fully dilated and pushed for 4 hours and got sectioned. Her muscles inside were so strong. After going through The Pink Kit and the audio tape, I realised that preparing for birth and going through labour was about making space and creating space in my wife's body'.
H. B … At peace with my 3 dimensional body

I am such a strong believer in The Pink Kit and what it represents which is how other mothers and fathers figured out how to give birth. It's such a positive affirmation of our human nature, human spirit and human mind. Because of what we learned about my body, how we could work through labour we had the most amazing birth. We followed the process, adjusting to the changes in the labour. I listened to my baby and knew what positions she liked. As she moved down through me, we did have to work to create space because she felt stuck in my hip. We had the skills to get her unstuck. She delivered sunny side up'.

Maci … Peaceful

I had a posterior baby and eventually a c/s with my first baby. I was terrified of labour. What a horrible back labour I had had and so very long. We had tried everything, gotten into every position imaginable so when I had my caesarean, I was angry, disappointed and had a huge sense of personal failure. This all led to severe post natal depression. My husband heard about The Pink Kit on his construction sight. Another one of his mate's had used it and his baby had been posterior and his partner had given birth vaginally. So, this time we bought ourselves the kit. First, let me tell you that I knew nothing last time but thought I knew everything. After watching the video, I was amazed that this wasn't everywhere. We were all going into labour with 90% of our own knowledge missing. Second, what we did in labour really made no sense at all. We spent hours pushing in on my sacrum to relieve my back pain. It did and now I know it also closed the space for my baby. What common sense, but we're told by our midwives to press, press, press so we do. Now I know how to mobilize my sacrum and my man knows how to do the hip lift and sacral move. Even thinking about it, I know it would have helped. I was SO tense. Third, the positions I got into were either not good for my pelvic map which I learned in The Pink Kit or weren't good for my baby because I leaned over so much to get rid of my back ache. After going through The Pink Kit, I didn't know if I wanted to laugh or cry. I was SO ignorant the first time. But funny, instead of making me feel more guilty, I actually feel healed. I know now, I just didn't know and did the best I could. I'm looking forward to this birth even though this baby is posterior as well. I know I'll do better'.

S. M … A light bulb moment in NZ
