What's Your Obstetrician's Role In Your Birth? 

Birth is very simple. There are three roles:

1. Yours ... You are giving birth. Only you can do the labour. Childbirth is called 'labour' because it's hard work. You have to do the hard yards, hard yaka and meet the challenge.

2. Your husband, partner, friend or relative who will be your Birth Coach.

3. Your obstetrician who makes certain everything is safe for you and your baby.

Your obstetrician wants you to cope with labour pains and have your partner help you do that. If you can't cope there is pain relief available. If you have trouble deliverying your baby, there are medical prodedures to help.

You can do birth. You will do birth. One hundred percent of pregnant women give birth.
