'At first we thought that birthing alone, just the two of us, was just a choice. We were incredibly naive. I laboured for 48 hours on hands and knees and no baby. Eventually a friend came over and told me I had to get more upright. I resisted and after another 10 hours, finally went into hospital. Our baby was ok, I had an infection, I needed an episiotomy and forceps and I just felt a whole range of emotions. My partner was totally bewildered by the whole experience. But I got it! Using The Pink Kit helped me understand what I had done wrong for myself. I delivered my next 5 babies by myself in the kitchen'.

We had had a rough first birth at home 7 years before. After that birth, I remember looking into a mirror and didn't recognize myself. I had found labour very intense. My midwives were very attentive, but I didn't get connected with them and they sort of excluded my husband. At the end of labour when it was really difficult my husband tried to reach me but by then I had just shut down. That labour had a huge impact on our relationship. We waited a long time to get pregnant again. During that pregnancy we discovered The Pink Kit and worked through it. It gave us a way to concentrate on positive things we could actually do rather than trying to sort out the last experience. That was too painful for us both. We really enjoyed the time preparing. Doing the internal work was very intense at first. Every tender place brought up a memory of my last birth and I'd cry. My husband was very patient as I knew he would be. He had so very much wanted to help me last time but didn't feel he could get through the 'women's business' thing. Anyway, I woke up about 3:00am with a very intense contraction. I rolled off our futon, squatted and checked myself. I felt that I was about 3-4cm dilated. I had two more contractions and out slithered our son. I didn't even have time to wake my husband. It was wild. Almost painless and one contraction to out'.

The wildest things do occur. There is no way to prepare for childbirth, really. The Pink Kit resources gave us the skills to handle what actually happened. My partner certainly couldnt the control contractions; which came one on top of another; however, we could control how we handled them. With The Pink Kit skills, my partner had the means to choose her responses to a very, very intense and unexpected, planned and definitely assisted ONLY by me'. Gregory H.
The first birth I went to was my sister's. It was forceps and lots of pulling by the doctor. It scared me to the bone. When I got pregnant I was terrified but actually had a fine 10 hour hospital labour. When we got pregnant 2 years later, my husband wanted to be more involved so we learned together using The Pink Kit and were planning another hospital birth. We never considered having the baby at home. Anyway, I woke up at 3:00am needing to go to the toilet. I sat on the toilet and suddenly felt the baby move down. I yelled to my husband as I crawled down the hall to the sofa. 'Get the video camera'. He took one look at me and said 'I'm getting the baby.'We would never have planned a home birth and if we had, it would have been with a midwife. Either way we would never have had the great experience we had together. Shane and Cheryl. M
'We planned to do this birth ourselves after three previous ones. We'd had good births, our son and twin girls. Because this time we were determined to do this entirely on our own, we wanted more skills. Loved The Pink Kit stuff. The information put us on the same track which we're not always on. My wife is a heavy smoker who doesn't like to exercise and I'm a health freak. So The Pink Kit kept us focused on one thing and one thing only. Thank goodness we needed it. Anyway, it didn't really happen like we had hoped. My wife (ed - father speaking ) went into labour and got incredibly irritable and nothing seemed to be happening after 10 hours. My husband (ed mother speaking) me around the house and that got on my nerves. After 10 hours of labour, I'd had it and wondered if our home birth was worth it. I ( ed - father) was just thinking about calling the ambulance when I heard that unmistakable sound. My wife gave birth right by the front door! Regardless of the lack of glamour, we had a good laugh.'

We were planning a home birth with our friend who was a midwife. I woke about 2:00am with a kind of intense contraction. I squatted by the futon while my partner slept. I didn't want to wake him until the contractions were more regular. I checked myself and thought I was about 3cm. I had two more contractions and the baby's head came out, then the body. I was so overwhelmed. It was painless. I didn't actually have time to wake him until he heard our son take his first breath. Wild.'
